نصائح بعد عملية استبدال المفاصل مركز بيلا

Joint replacement surgery, especially of the knee and hip, is one of the most effective ways to relieve pain and restore movement for people with advanced osteoarthritis. But a good result does not depend on surgery alone. Rehabilitation and following your care team’s advice matter just as much.

Before Surgery: Prepare Your Body

  • Pre-surgery exercises: strengthening the thigh and hip muscles beforehand speeds up recovery.
  • Prepare your home: remove rugs and obstacles, have a firm chair with armrests, and keep everyday items within easy reach.
  • Practice with a walker or crutches before the operation.

After Surgery: The First Weeks

  • Start moving and walking with your walking aid as instructed, often within the first day or two.
  • Do your physical therapy exercises every day to prevent stiffness and rebuild strength.
  • Use ice and elevation to control swelling.
  • Watch for warning signs such as fever, spreading redness, wound discharge, or calf pain and swelling, and contact your doctor right away if they appear.

Precautions to Avoid Injury

  • After hip replacement, follow your surgeon’s movement precautions, such as avoiding deep hip bending or crossing your legs.
  • Avoid very low chairs in the early weeks.
  • Use a raised toilet seat and grab bars.
  • Don’t stop exercising when you start feeling better; muscles need time to regain strength.

The Role of Physical Therapy

Your physical therapist tracks joint range, muscle strength and walking, and progresses you from simple bed exercises to stairs and everyday activities. Most patients need several weeks to a few months of rehabilitation to reach their best result.

When Can You Return to Activities?

It varies, but many people walk without aids within weeks and return to driving and light tasks once their doctor approves. High-impact activities such as running and jumping are usually not recommended after joint replacement.
